 Meet the Dentist

 Dr. Lawrence W. Kolar is a board-certified dentist, licensed to practice general dentistry in the states of Illinois and Michigan. He earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Illinois in 1978 ("With Honors and Distinction") and his dental degree from the University of Illinois College of Dentistry in 1982. He received an award at graduation for "Clinical Excellence in Pediatric Dentistry." Dr. Kolar is a member of the American Dental Association (ADA), the Illinois State Dental Society (ISDS) and the Chicago Dental Society (CDS).

 Dr. Kolar is one of the few practicing dentists who has extensive experience in both dental teaching (22 years at the University of Illinois College of Dentistry, including 5 years as a course director) and also as a dental licensing examiner (for the Illinois State Board of Dentistry). He participates in clinical licensing examinations for dental students and recent dental graduates in numerous states (including Illinois) with the Central Regional Dental Testing Service (CRDTS) and the Northeast Regional Board of Dental Examiners (NERB). Although these examiniations involve much traveling and time commitments, Dr. Kolar is firmly dedicated to the process of maintaining the accountability of dental schools and their graduating students for the betterment of the general public. Also, Dr. Kolar believes that his work as a dental licensing examiner makes him a better dentist.

Dr. Kolar is also dedicated to maintaining and upgrading his clinical skills through continuing dental education classes. Each year, he takes between 35 and 50 hours of advanced training in clinical dentistry. This is in addition to presentations and lectures that he has given at local dental meetings.

Dr. Kolar's practice philosophy is that dentistry is a healing science that focuses on the prevention of dental diseases, whenever possible, as well as the treatment of dental diseases. He has a particular interest in the relationship that dental disease has upon overall health, as well as the clinical modifications necessary to safely and effectively treat dental problems in medically compromised patients, especially in elderly patients. Dr. Kolar's practice strongly emphasizes the "medical model" of dental practice. This is in contrast to many dental practices today, which treat mainly the "cosmetic" and "purely esthetic" aspects of dentistry.

Dr. Kolar's outside interests include volunteering for his kids' school band programs and keeping in touch with friends from high school and dental school.

 

Facility

We are proud to provide a state-of-the-art facility for the highest quality dental care possible. It is our top priority to protect the well-being of our valued patients. For this reason, our office meets and surpasses all CDC (Center for Disease Control) standards for sterilization of all dental instruments used on our patients.  Indeed, we welcome any inquiries regarding sterilization and overall infection control precautions routinely used in our office. Please feel free to request to see our state-of-the art hospital grade "stericenter," complete with its three (3) separate high heat/high pressure sterilizers.

Fees and Financial Information

We are very proud of our fees!!! We recognize the fact that people want to be treated fairly, especially with regard to fees, but that they also want to receive state of the art high tech quality care in a clean, safe environment. With this in mind, we are happy to say that we have maintained a fee schedule that is fully compatible with the absolute vast majority of the dental insurance industry's Usual, Customary and Reasonable (UCR) fee levels, while at the same time, maintaining a state of the art dental facility.

 

 Cancellation

If you are unable to keep an appointment, we ask that you kindly inform us as soon as you realize that you need to change your appointment. In this way, we can make your canceled appointment time available for other patients. Also, when you call us to change an appointment, we can reschedule you right during your phone call, so you will have accomplished two tasks with one phone call!
